NWS Upgrades Excessive Heat Watch to Warning

7/31/2017

South Bend, Washington – The National Weather Service in Portland has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the Willapa Hills in eastern Pacific County. This replaces the previously issued Excessive Heat Watch. This warning is in effect from noon Tuesday August 1, 2017 until 11:00p.m. on Friday August 4, 2017.

High temperatures are forecast to be near 100 degrees Tuesday, and forecast to reach 104 to 107 degrees Wednesday and Thursday. Friday’s high temperature may also be near 100 degrees. Low temperatures will remain warm overnight; dropping only into the mid-60’s to lower 70’s. The hot weather will create stress for anyone outdoors and involved in physical activity, as well as those not acclimated to the heat and the elderly. Do not leave children in your vehicle.

In addition, the Excessive Heat Watch remains in effect for the coastal areas of Pacific County from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday August 2, 2017, with forecast highs in the mid-80’s to the mid-90’s. The warmest temperatures will be in communities away from the immediate coastline.  It should be in the low to mid 80s Thursday, but there is a possibility that it could be warmer than currently forecast.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. Reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing and stay hydrated. Ensure your pets have shelter and water.
