PCEMA Volunteers to be Honored

6/6/2012

South Bend, Washington – The Pacific County Emergency Management Agency (PCEMA) will be honoring volunteers at an appreciation dinner on June 12, 2012 in Seaview. PCEMA volunteers will be recognized for their continued efforts to assist emergency management.

Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service volunteers serve as spotters during the All Hazard Alert Broadcast siren system monthly tests, support NOAA weather radio programming, and work on communications equipment or in the Pacific County Emergency Operations Center.
There is also a new cadre of volunteers who have been assisting PCEMA in public education efforts by presenting the Let’s Talk Tsunamis series and disaster preparedness presentations. Several volunteers are also involved in Community Emergency Response Team training and/or Map Your Neighborhood programs.
For additional information about becoming a PCEMA volunteer, please contact AmeriCorps*VISTA member Natasha Nesbitt at (360) 875-9409 or nnesbitt@co.pacific.wa.us.

SKYWARN Spotter Training in Grayland

6/4/2012

South Bend, Washington – The National Weather Service (NWS) Portland Office will offer SKYWARN Spotter training on Monday, June 11th at 6:00 p.m. at the North Willapa Harbor Grange, 3198 State Route 105 in Grayland.
The NWS welcomes volunteers with an interest in severe weather spotting. The SKYWARN program is a voluntary noble civic service. Reports made by spotters provide visual confirmation of potentially severe weather and aid forecasters in issuing warnings.
SKYWARN volunteers support their local community and government by providing the NWS with timely and accurate severe weather reports. These reports, when integrated with modern NWS technology, are used to inform communities of the proper actions to take as severe weather threatens. The key focus of the SKYWARN program is to save lives and property through the use of the observations and reports of trained volunteers.
This information is provided at the request of and on behalf of the National Weather Service.  Additional information may be found at:http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/pqr/skywarn.php.
