NOTICE OF EXAMINATION FOR 
ENTRY LEVEL CORRECTIONS OFFICER 
Pacific County Sheriff’s Office 

Notice is hereby given that the Pacific County Civil Service Commission is establishing an eligibility list for entry level Corrections Officer with the Pacific County Sheriff’s Office. Applications for examination will be accepted by the Civil Service Examiner until further notice. The salary range for Corrections Officer is $3,028 - $3,688. 
Duties Include: 
• Booking prisoners 
• Releasing prisoners 
• Assisting in feeding prisoners 
• Disciplining prisoners for violation of jail rules 
• Supervising prisoner cell movement, recreation activities, chapel, special call-outs, etc.
• Transporting prisoners 
• Completing reports, forms, etc. 
All duties are performed in accordance with state law and departmental policies and procedures. Employees work with offenders in a potentially hazardous setting. Corrections Officer Minimum Qualifications 
• U.S. Citizen. Minimum age of 21 at time of appointment. 
• High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate. 
• Valid driver’s license. 
• Ability to read and write English as required by RCW 41.14.100. 
• Candidates must be able to type minimum 20 wpm. The typing test may be taken at Worksource. The typing certificate must be turned in with the application. 
• Review the Pacific County Sheriff’s Minimum Hiring Standards for more information. 

Application Procedure 
• Applications may be obtained at the Pacific County Civil Service Office, email atcivilservice@co.pacific.wa.us, or by calling 360-875-9334. 
• Complete the Pacific County application for employment and sign statement requesting examination. 
• Submit application and typing certificate to Pacific County Civil Service Commission, PO Box 6, South Bend, WA 98586 or in person to the Civil Service office in the Pacific County Annex Building. 
• The Physician’s Statement must be signed by your Physician and turned in before or at the time of the Physical Abilities Test. 

Examination Process 
• Candidates will be required to complete a Physical Abilities Test, a Written Examination, and an Oral Board Examination. 
• Following is the tentative schedule for testing: 
1. Written Examination- TBD at the Commissioner’s meeting room in the Pacific County Annex Building, 1216 Robert Bush Drive, South Bend. The written examination is weighted at 60%. 
2. Physical Abilities Test- TBD at the South Bend High School track. The PAT includes 3 events: push-ups, sit-ups, and a 1.5 mile run. Applicants must pass the PAT or they will be ineligible for the Corrections Officer register. Signed Physician’s Statement must be turned in before or at the time of the Physical Abilities Test. 


3. Oral Board Examination- TBD The oral board is weighted at 40%. 

• Ranking of the applicants on the eligible register shall be based on the results of the examinations. 
• Veteran’s preference, as set out in RCW 41.04.005 and 41.04.010 shall be applied when entitled. 
• As openings in the Corrections Officer class occur, the Civil Service Examiner will submit the top 
5 names on the eligibility list to the Sheriff for consideration in filling the vacancy. Once certified, Civil Service registers are typically in place for a year, unless there is cause to abandon the register before that time.

Ocean Park Couple Arrested for Drug Sales

Ocean Park, WA. – An investigation by the Pacific County Drug Task Force concluded in Ocean Park on Friday February 20th, with the execution of a narcotics related search warrant and two arrests. Angela R. Jones, age 50, was arrested for two counts of delivery of a controlled substance (Heroin), one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver (Heroin) and one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver (Methamphetamine). Jones’s boyfriend, identified as Lyn R. McFall, age 51, was also arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver (Methamphetamine). 


During the investigation, the Drug Task Force received complaints regarding ongoing illegal drug activity at or around the suspect’s residence located in the 25200 block of Vernon Avenue in Ocean Park. Throughout the investigation detectives were able to develop information and were granted search warrant for the residence. 


The Pacific County Drug Task Force was assisted by deputies with the Pacific County Sheriff’s Office, officers with the Long Beach Police Department and officers from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife with the execution of the search warrant. 

During the subsequent search of the residence, detectives discovered suspected Methamphetamine, suspected Tar and Powder Heroin, drug paraphernalia, digital weigh scales and over $ 2500.00 in cash in several different denominations, believed to be from drug sales. 


Both Jones and McFall were transported to the Pacific County Jail for booking.

Ilwaco Man Arrested for Selling Heroin Next to School

Ilwaco, WA. – On February 12th, members of the Pacific County Drug Task Force served a narcotics related search warrant upon a residence located in the 400 block of Fir street northeast. The residence in question is located in very close proximity to the Ilwaco Middle and High Schools. The Pacific County Drug Task Force was assisted by the Long Beach Police Department, the Pacific County Sheriff’s Office and the Clatsop County Drug Task Force during the service of the warrant. 

The search warrant was obtained as a result of a two month investigation regarding the sales of heroin by a male subject residing at the residence. Derrick RB Budd, age 37, was arrested at the scene for three counts of delivery of a controlled substance (heroin).

During the search of the residence, investigators discovered several small baggies containing a white crystal like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. Investigators also discovered a baggie containing a substance that tested positive for heroin. Other narcotics related paraphernalia indicative of narcotics sales were also located. 

Due to the evidence located during the search, Budd was also arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance (Heroin) with intent to deliver and for Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine). Budd was transported to Pacific County Jail for booking.

NWS Issues High Wind Warning

South Bend, Washington – As of 2:37 p.m. this afternoon, the National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning in effect from 10:00 p.m. today to 7:00 a.m. tomorrow for the South Washington Coast. The strongest winds are expected for the beaches and headlands.

South Winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 60 mph are forecast for the beaches and headlands. The forecast for coastal communities is for South winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 45 mph. Winds will begin increasing late this evening and overnight. The strongest winds are expected midnight and 4:00 a.m. on Friday.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions:

A high wind warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

PCEMA to Hold Hazard Mitigation Plan Meetings in Conjunction with Tsunami Forums

South Bend, Washington – The Pacific County Emergency Management Agency has been awarded a federal mitigation planning grant, applied for with the intent of updating the Pacific County Hazard Mitigation Plan, first published in 2010. 

BOLDplanning, a consulting firm contracted to guide the process, will lead public meetings to kick off the update of Pacific County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan.BOLDplanning manages the hazard mitigation planning process by providing on-site process facilitation, stakeholder outreach, data collection and analysis, plan writing, and strategy development. The mitigation plan addresses Pacific County’s natural hazards, vulnerabilities and complies with state and federal regulations.   The meetings will be held on February 18th in Long Beach at the South County Administration Building, Meeting Room A, located at 7013 Sandridge Road at 2:00 p.m. The second meeting will be held at 2:00 p.m. on February 19th, at the Willapa Harbor Chamber of Commerce Community Center, 916 W. First Street in South Bend. 
These meetings are planned with public input in mind and will be held in conjunction with Tsunami Information Forums designed for the business community. Following these kick-off meetings, meetings will be held with stakeholders from the previous Pacific County Hazard Mitigation Plan, as well as new stakeholders identified to partner with the county for plan development and implementation.
