South Bend, Washington – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a high wind warning which is in effect from 1:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Friday and a coastal flood advisory in effect from 1:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. Friday. A strong low pressure system will move into the northeast Pacific late tonight and early Friday morning. This system will drive a strong warm front onshore into the Pacific Northwest late tonight for windy conditions along the coast. South winds increasing to 30-40 mph after midnight with gusts 70-80 mph are expected for the beaches and coastal headlands. As a cold front moves onshore Friday morning, the coastal communities will see winds increase to 30-40 mph with gusts 60-65 mph. The storm surge from the system coupled with the high tide Friday morning may result in minor tidal overflows along low-lying sections of the south Washington coast.Precautionary/Preparedness Actions: A high wind warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage. A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
