South Bend, Washington – The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning in effect from 2:00 p.m. until midnight Thursday October 13, 2016, for the South Washington Coast. The strongest winds are expected for the beaches and headlands.
South winds rapidly increasing Thursday afternoon of 40 to 50 mph with gusts of 65 to 80 mph are forecast for the beaches and headlands. The forecast inland is for south winds of 25 to 45 mph with gusts 55 to 65 mph. Peak wind speeds are predicted between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The winds may be strong enough to damage trees, especially as a full canopy of leaves remains on those trees. Sporadic power outages are possible, and travel may be difficult due to damaged trees in the roadway.
Outlook for Friday and Saturday
Another round of winds, not as strong as Thursday’s winds is likely on Friday. Another strong storm on Saturday could bring stronger and potentially more damaging winds. PCEMA will provide updates on these events as they develop.
Precautionary/Preparedness Actions:
A high wind warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage. Trees may fall across roadways with little warning.
