Kids & 911

Teach Your Kids How to Call 911
1. When to Call 911
        A) Call only in a 911 emergency.
        B) Call when you need the police, fire department or an ambulance.
2. How to Call
        A) On some phones, you hear a dial tone when you pick it up. Push the 9 button, push                                     the 1 button and then push the 1 button again.
        B) On other phones, you have to press ON or TALK  to hear the dial tone. Then dial 911.
        C) On a cell phone, dial 911, then press SEND or the green button on the phone.
3. What to Say
Tell the person answering the 911 call:
             A) Where you are.
             B) What the emergency is.
             C) Your name and phone number.
Remember: stay calm, speak up and answer all of their questions. Don’t hang up until you are told to do so.
Kids & Cell Phones
A majority of 911 hang up calls that PACCOM receives comes from children playing with cell phones. Please do not let your child play with your phone. Hang ups or open line 911 calls keep 911 staff from answering true emergencies.

Some parents give old phones that are no longer connected to service to their children to play with. Cell phones that do not have service can still reach 911. If you are going to give your old phones to your children make sure that the batteries are dead.

If you would like a 911 professional to come to your school, church or community group to talk about calling 911, please contact us at (360)875-9340.
