DEPUTIES INVESTIGATE A SUSPICIOUS PERSON AND SOLVE A BURGLARY AND VEHICLE THEFT

Deputies Investigate a Suspicious Person and Solve a Burglary and Vehicle Theft
Ocean Park, WA. – On July 25th, deputies responded to a report of a residential burglary in the 18200 block of Sandridge road. The victim of the burglary advised that she had returned home to find her front door open and her side garage door open.
Deputies investigated and processed the scene and it was clear that several items had been stolen from the residence according to the victim. Several articles of jewelry were stolen as well as a small safe and a pink suitcase. Both the residence and the garage had been tampered with.
On July 26th, deputies noticed a suspicious male subject standing near a vehicle behind a closed business in the Ocean Park area. The deputies contacted the suspicious male and spoke with him. After speaking with the suspicious male he was released. A short time later, the deputies decided to return to the vehicle to see if it had been tampered with. The deputies checked the registration for the vehicle and discovered that the vehicle was listed as stolen out of the Vancouver, Washington area. They also noticed that the ignition to the vehicle appeared to have been manipulated.
One of the deputies then went to re-locate the subject that they had just contacted to further interview him about the vehicle. The other deputy stayed with the vehicle to process it for evidence. The deputy that was processing the vehicle for evidence located a pink suitcase full of jewelry in the trunk of the vehicle. The deputy also located a camera with the recent burglary victim’s name on it. The deputy also recovered a small amount of heroin and methamphetamine from the vehicle along with used syringes.
A short time later, the subject that the deputies had contacted prior was located and detained. The subject was identified as Noel A. Sampson, age 31 of Long Beach. Sampson was found to be wearing a piece of the stolen jewelry around his neck that the burglary victim had described. Upon further interviewing, Sampson admitted to burglarizing the residence and stealing items. Sampson described how he entered the residence as well. Sampson also later led deputies to more stolen property from the residence at a different location.
Sampson also admitted to stealing the recovered vehicle from the Vancouver, Washington area days earlier. Sampson was transported to the Pacific County Jail for booking for several charges relating to burglary, theft and possession of narcotics. His bail has been set at 100,000.00.

Man Arrested for Attempting to Elude a Sheriff’s Deputy on a Moped
Ocean Park, WA. – On July 28th at about 6:30 PM, a Pacific County Sheriff’s Deputy noticed a male subject riding a black Honda moped traveling north bound on M street near the deputy’s location. The deputy noted that the license registration on the moped was expired. The deputy initiated a traffic stop to detain the rider of the moped for the violation by activating the patrol vehicle’s emergency lights.
The moped accelerated and did not yield for the deputy. The deputy activated the patrol vehicle’s siren as well in an attempt to get the moped to stop. The moped kept going and took several side streets in an attempt to flee. The area of the short pursuit took place in a small neighborhood consisting of several residences. The pursuing deputy observed the moped turn into the yard of a private residence. As the deputy approached the yard, he noticed that the moped was lying on its side and abandoned. The deputy had gathered a good description of the rider.
A resident nearby alerted the deputy by pointing towards the location that the rider had fled. The deputy pursued on foot and heard another nearby resident yelling that the rider of the moped had fled into a wooded area of another residence. A few minutes later the deputy located the rider of the moped and placed him under arrest without incident. The rider of the moped was identified as Michael R. Berget age 34, of Ocean Park. Upon further investigation of the moped, the deputy discovered that the license plate on the moped had been switched or altered from another moped and the license tag was from the state of Oregon. Berget was transported to the Pacific County Jail for booking and is being held on 25,000.00 bail. Berget also had outstanding warrants for his arrest.
